Project Hyosung : Part 3

Image
Bit of gap between parts 2 and three but have been messing about and not posting anything, I did some more work on the seat,  I have done a rattle can paint job on it .. the paintwork is not very good but for now, that will do I pulled out the rear suspension and cleaned and greased all the bearings and linkages.  Luke and I bought a bike off Trade Me with a blown engine between us and that got me some parts, like the reset bracket to move the footrests back  This is a standard part of the sporty model, so, of course, dropped right in. I also got the top part of the fairing  The frame of course had no mounts for this, in the above pic it's just sitting on in this pic, it is becoming he bike of many colours though.   Anyway made a bracket  Yeah okay i am also a shit welder .. and a shit painter I have welded this to the frame   As you can see I have the forks and headstock out as I am rebuilding the forks, new seals and oil,  And last, o...

Cattle and Pets

Image
A term we hear a lot is systems are either Cattle or Pets.  But what does this really mean? What makes a system a “pet“ and what makes a system “cattle” and why is everyone trying to have cattle? Aren’t we all supposed to be eating less meat? Okay so it has nothing to do with meat, and I am sure, as I explain it many farmers would disagree with the analogy, however like it or not, it does seem to have become a term that is ingrained in IT today. What are “Cattle” Systems? For a system to be considered “Cattle” it must be deployable and rebuildable, so, for example, it is created using something like Terraform, it is configured by something like Puppet and it contains no specific data.  To use another buzzword, it should be ephemeral. This means it is replaceable/deployable automatically.  And ideally, it is part of a group, even better a load-balanced or auto-scaling group so an instance can disappear and be replaced with no interruption of service.  It can appear to...

Project Hyosung : Part 2

Image
Okay, so the new loom worked great [see the previous post] and is now all wrapped and refitted, I have removed the ignition and replaced it with a simple on/off switch And as you can  see fitted some clip-ons, just a cheap set from AliExpress  You can see the item here  [possibly]. 51MM is the required size, and they fit really nicely. The only issue I have is the master cylinder in relation to the clip-on mount is forcing there to be only one angle for the lever which is not going to be ideal.  So I have ordered a new master cylinder with a remote reservoir.  They clear the tank fine but the lock does seem a bit extreme so I think I will fit some lock stops to reduce that a little.   But all that's for another day. I also got a really cheap tail can this week. $120! From Custom Chambers in East Tamaki Yeah, this will be a Chinese knock of SC, not the real thing and I am sure I could have got it from AliExpress for less .. and may yet order some...

Project Hyosung : So It Begins

Image
A friend of mine had a Hyosung 250 that had failed its WOF, Failed on having non-standard brakes and brake lines.  So the only way to get a WOF is to put the brakes back to stock which is not really financially viable so I have managed to acquire it for a box of beer. and why would I want that? well, I reckon it will make a fun track-day bike... so this series of posts will be about this journey. Step One - Take it apart  Well as a road bike it has a lot of stuff we just don't need for the track...  This stuff  So now it looks like this... And I might have pulled the wiring loom apart ...  And I might have removed some wires...   hopefully it will still go ...  time will tell I suppose... see the next post
